At this point in time, automotive technology is evolving at such a rapid pace that’s kind of difficult to keep up with the latest and greatest that you see in the world cars. With many different features and new ideas are flying each and every way, you almost never know which end is up in terms of what features are being speculated about, which are conceptual, and which are actually on their way to market. This time, we take a chance to observe some of this technology in action as a wild collision warning and braking system has been put into place on a Volvo semi truck.

If we could think of one machine that would be most important to get stopped quickly, the semi would be it as it’s not only the heaviest on the road but also is one of the most heavily used in addition to being one of the least maneuverable. If one of these things need to be stopped on a dime, well, good luck! By the time the driver is able to come up with a reaction to what’s happening in front of him and jams on the brakes, that much moving momentum is going to be quite difficult to stop in the heat of the moment.

However, if we are taking most advantage of technology that’s out there today, a company like Volvo will put in place a collision warning system that’s complete with an emergency braking feature like we see here and this time, we take a look at the feature in action as this massive piece of machinery rolls up quickly on some unsuspecting dummy cars that are traveling way below the rate of the big rig and the system acts quickly. This is when the braking system kicks in to action in a hurry, making sure that it doesn’t do any damage where possible. It might give you a knot in your stomach but you can see the testing below!
